26th June Arrive at Basecamp By Zac Zaharias

It rained at our over night stop at overnight stop at Shagharing. At 5 am Micky V., Zac and Geoff sprinted ahead of the porter to select a suitable site at Basecamp.
With 9 expeditions already in situ and more to come space was a premium. The Czech expedition provided the advance party with coffee, ham and cheese a real treat.

A good site was selected at the very top of the lateral moraine overlooking all the other expeditions and with a direct view into the South Gasherbrum icefall. Digging out level tent sites from the ice and rubble was the afternoon’s job and it was made challenging by an afternoon blizzard. At 5 pm Paul and Steve the two trekkers arrived weary but happy after a long walk from Concordia as they had stayed at Concordia to assist with their acclimatization.

It has been a long two weeks since leaving Australia but the team has established itself at Basecamp at 5150m.
